Magnus Racing with Flex-Box: Once Upon a Time in… Daytona

This weekend at Daytona International Speedway, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship enters the golden age of sports car racing, kicking the year off with the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona. The 24-hour endurance racing event will highlight the future of sports car racing, and the No. 44 Magnus Racing with Flex-Box Aston Martin Vantage GT4 will be one of 61 entries competing in the 24-hour endurance race. Driven by John Potter, Andy Lally, Spencer Pumpelly, and Nicki Thiim. 

The official start of the season marks our 13th year of racing, and we’re celebrating that lucky anniversary with the reveal of our 2023 poster: Once Upon a Time in…Daytona. In the latest team poster,  John Potter is rocking the Rick Dalton knit turtleneck and leather jacket, and Spencer Pumpelly in a white tee sports Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth locks. His wavy, blonde mane is nothing compared to Andy Lally and Nicki Thiim’s flowing golden locks, which will no doubt be the envy of most in the paddock. 

We finished second here last year and are quite eager to return to the top step of the podium as sports car racing enters a new age of technology with quite the list of veteran drivers.  Thiim, an Aston Martin factory driver, joins the veteran Magnus Racing trio, led by Team Somebody John Potter. Potter will be making his 13th run at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, a race he conquered in 2012 and 2016. He has returned to the podium twice since, earning second place finishes in 2020 and 2022.

Potter’s longtime co- driver Andy Lally stands as the winningest active driver and is third on the all-time list of wins for the Rolex 24 At Daytona (2001, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016). Without noting his age, Lally also holds the streak for the most participation in consecutive Rolex 24 events, going for 21 straight years and counting. 

Also not a spring chicken but still filled with gusto and talent is Spencer Pumpelly, who finished the race in first in 2014, and even celebrated victory on the podium until results were changed five hours later. He finished in second with Magnus Racing in 2020 and 2022 and will run with the team for their fifth Rolex 24 together. 

Tune in to the Golden Age of sports car racing and catch all the action on Saturday, January 28, starting at 1:40 PM ET. NBC will carry the first hour before the race hops over to the USA network, and ping-pongs between the two for the remainder of the event, concluding on USA.
